Projects

In this course, you will encounter several projects and mini assessments to better assess your understanding of the material and to apply your knowledge of the content. Assessments may include: 

• Proctored mulitple choice assessments

• Short answer video responses

• Recorded video presentations

• Argumentative writing and primary source analysis

Below is a breakdown of the major assessments you will find in the course. 

Semester 1: 

Mini Assessments: 

1. Captain of Industry or Robber Baron?: Students will argue whether leading industrialists such as John D. Rockefeller and Andrew Carnegie should be considered heroes or villains based on their legacies and business practices. 

2. Progressive Era Reforms: Students will use primary source image analysis to determine the goals of progressives during industrialization and identify the lasting impacts of the progressive movement. 

3. Imperialism and WWI: A self proctored multiple choice exam. 

4. Hoover vs Roosevelt: Students will use SchoolAI to have a conversation with both Great Depression era presidents and defend an argument regarding the government's role in national crises. 

Unit Projects: 

1. Immigration Project: Students will interview a member of their community with an immigrant-like experience and compare their experiences with the experiences of immigrants from the lesson material in a 3-5 minute slideshow presentation recording. 

2. 1920's and Clash of Cultures: Students may choose between an artistic hand-drawn poster or visual slideshow to showcase their understanding of a culture clash of their choice from the 1920s. Students will discuss their findings in a 3-5 minute video presentation.

Semester 2:

Mini Assessments: 

1. WWII and the Homefront: Students will analyze primary source images to determine both the progressive and limiting effects WWII had on various social groups in the United States. Students will share their findings in a 2-3 minute video presentation.

2. The Cold War: A self proctored multiple choice exam. 

3. Foreign Policy: A self proctored multiple choice exam covering presidencies from the 1960s-1980s.

Unit Projects:  

1. The Atomic Bomb Project: Students will analyze primary sources that highlight arguments both for and against the use of the atomic bomb. Students will write an argumentative paragraph of their opinon, and answer a short video response. 

2. The Civil Rights Comparison Project: Students will compare the civil rights movement to another social movement of their choice from the same time period. Students will present their comparison and findings in a 3-5 minute slideshow presentation recording. 

3. Current Issues and Civic Engagement: Students will watch Edpuzzle videos covering various current issues in our modern day. Students will highlight a specific current issue they care about and use SchoolAI to brainstorm a realistic solution and engage in their community to improve the problem. Students share their experience and ideas in a 2-3 minute reflection video.
