Orientations:
Join us for the APEX Orientation—your starting point for a successful climb to the summit of professional learning. This session will equip you with the tools you need to thrive in the program, including an overview of available learning opportunities, guidance on how to engage through our Engagement Menu, your choice board of opportunities, and details on how to earn stipends for completed work. You'll leave with everything you need to navigate APEX confidently and successfully. Four times available. Choose the one that best fits your schedule!
Gilder Lehrman Symposiums:
Each Gilder Lehrman Symposium pairs in-depth historical insight with classroom-ready application. A leading historian opens the session with a deep dive into a key American history topic, followed by breakout workshops for Elementary and Secondary teachers. These workshops are led by Gilder Lehrman Master Teachers—expert educators trained in the Teaching Literacy Through History (TLTH) approach—who model how to turn scholarship into engaging, literacy-rich lessons. Teachers leave with stronger content knowledge and practical strategies they can use immediately in their classrooms.
Professional Learning Networks:
Professional Learning Networks (PLNs) provide collaborative, needs-driven professional learning with targeted strategies from expert educators and partner organizations, tailored for Elementary (K–5) and Secondary (6–12) cohorts to support practical, classroom-ready growth.
Turn the page—and turn new ideas into practice! Our Book Studies offer educators an opportunity to explore engaging texts that deepen content knowledge, strengthen instructional practice, and spark meaningful conversations with colleagues.
Throughout the year, participants will engage with carefully selected historical, professional, and pedagogical texts connected to program themes and goals. Book Studies are designed to go beyond simply reading a book. Through guided reflection, collaborative discussions, and practical applications, participants will consider how new learning can inform inquiry, historical thinking, civic engagement, and classroom instruction.
Some Book Studies may include virtual discussions, reflection activities, quizzes, or other opportunities to demonstrate engagement and extend learning. Specific participation requirements, program hours, and stipend eligibility will be provided with each selection.
Whether you're exploring a compelling historical story or discovering a new approach to teaching and learning, our Book Studies are about reading, reflecting, connecting, and putting ideas into action.

Optional Activities:
Optional activities offer self-paced opportunities to earn additional project hours and stipends. This page highlights available activities and allows you to track your progress throughout the year. All optional hours will be totaled and entered into the APEX Platform as a single entry at the end of the project year (August 2026). In the meantime, use the link below to monitor your progress; participants may earn up to 24 optional activity hours.
