Teaching method essentially covers the general principles, pedagogy and management strategies utilized for classroom instruction. It’s according to a teacher’s educational philosophy, classroom demographic, subject matter, and school’s mission and vision. While teachers are still in authority in a student-centered teaching model, both the teachers and pupils play an equally active role in the teaching and learning process and experiences. There was no moment of invalidating of a pupil’s comment or opinion during the discussion. The teacher’s principal role is to facilitate the pupil’s learning and to measure their learning and performance through both formal and informal forms of assessment. During which technology undoubtedly has made a huge impact on education, many educators decided to use a more traditional, low tech approach to learning. The teachers there don’t integrate technology in any of their teaching, just the microphone and speakers during their morning routine. They utilize hands-on learning wherein requiring the students to do, make, or create. The teachers provide hands-on experiences, drawing, building, and play.
The school provided a lot of learning spaces inside and outside the classrooms that gives a variety of learning opportunities and experiences to the pupils. In specific are the Play Area, Arts and Crafts Area, Music Area, Nature and Planting Area, and Reading Corner. In each learning space, it provides certain experiences for the pupils. The playground or the play area has a variety of equipment that the kids enjoy there. The teachers let them explore and play on their own without restrictions, but still with guidance of the teachers. The Arts and Crafts area has materials such as crayons, origami and colored papers, glue, pair of scissors, markers, and many more. In the Music area there’s an available lyre instrument that students can play and practice, and a tambourine. The school is surrounded by green plants where recently they just held a planting event where the pupils were the ones who transferred it in the pots. The Reading corner found in their classrooms has its own shelf packed with different kinds of books for kids. In addition, there are 3D representations of their rules in their religion-Islam. I have seen computer desktops inside the school but wasn’t utilized by the kids, but they always the microphone and the speakers during their morning routine.
A total of six teachers, which includes five Early Childhood teachers and one religion teacher, who serve as the educator, facilitator, mentor, and second parents to almost a hundred pupils in the school they carry a huge responsibility in all the learning of the kids at school. In the five classes taking place at the same time, each has an adviser and when one’s absent, other teachers or people from the office would take over. The teachers vary the lessons on the curriculum and the lesson plans are made by them. They don’t have a common reference book where they all gather the lesson to be discussed but they find the appropriate sources and study the themes on their own. The process of learning there wasn't the way where the teacher acts as the sole authority and source of knowledge that the pupils would just sit and listen, but they were facilitators and provides guidance on how pupils learn and indulge new knowledge and skills.
Authentic Assessment gives emphasis on pupils using and applying knowledge and skills in real-life settings. In Bhayangkari, since they do hands-on learning, the pupils were given the opportunity to explore, discover, and enjoy. During which according to studies, learners who uses more sense while learning, they’d remember it better since they were able to experience it more and so they have more memory with it for easier recall. As said previously, the student and teacher ratio is small and so the teachers can easily observe and remember details on their pupils. They assess the pupils through their performance, not only inside the classroom but also outside since learning isn’t limited to the four corners of the classroom. Given the variety of learning spaces, a lot of learning opportunities were offered to the pupils. Accordingly, the roles of the teachers does not end when the classes were dismissed because learning continues even the pupils step out of the classroom and so they’d have to make sure to instill positive behaviors and learning to the pupils.
