Travelling and teaching are two of the things I really enjoy doing. In the reason of given the opportunity to both things I love, I joined SEA Teacher Project by SEAMEO where I felt nervous and exhilarated at the same time. Since I was able to experience Practice Teaching with my last two shifts in Juan Sumulong Elementary School in Manila, and Little Harvard Academy in Quezon City, I never imagined it’s going to be hard at all. And so, what scared me the most was travelling in a foreign country, all by myself. Hence, there were a lot of preparations that I made, from the documents needed, such as the Affidavit of Parental Consent, Medical Certificate, the plane ticket and of course the passport, next was the packing of things that I need while making sure that it could last for one month and it would not overweigh my baggage, after it was the preparation of thy self. Being physically, emotionally, socially, and mentally prepared shouldn’t be missed. As I have mentioned that I travelled alone, I was more alert and observant with my surroundings and the people that I encounter although I did not forget to enjoy and cherish every moment of it, especially that I met friendly people on the way. One tip that I shouldn’t miss saying was there’s nothing wrong in asking because I personally learned a lot from it. My flight from Manila to Jakarta was at ease at all, thanks to Cebu Pacific however during their talks inside the plane, please be more careful with the information you disseminate because for your information, Philippines is ahead one hour from Indonesia. When I arrived at Soekerno International Airport, it was one in the morning. Many food stores were closed and a lot of people were sleeping soundly on the benches without thinking much about their things or luggage wherein my next flight to Bengkulu was still seven in the morning. I just roamed around the airport and looked for an open food store, luckily KFC was still open. I was not yet used to rupiah, thank goodness for an honest worker there where he returned the excess money I paid. After ordering, I was confused because they did not give me any utensils, and when I was about to ask for a spoon and fork, I saw the other two ladies next to me, and so I observed them first, they washed their hands first, then got a chili sauce, and ate the rice like a burger. I imitated what they did, and I was fulfilled for gaining a new experience already when I just landed. The transfer services of the airport there was free where you can either ride the Sky Train or a bus to bring you to other terminals, in which I rode the Sky Train and waited for almost four hours for it open because it opens five in the morning. With that being said, I can say that the start of my journey from Manila to Bengkulu was leading me to a great start.
