For nearly a century, the Sarao Motors and other jeepney factories located in Las Piñas, Philippines, have been producing the iconic Manila jeepneys, which serve as a representation of Filipino creativity and workmanship (Owt, 2022). However, the demand for traditional jeepneys has significantly decreased as a result of the government's push to replace them with more modern, environmentally friendly ones. In addition to being much more expensive, the newly updated jeepneys are less affordable for operators, which increases industry uncertainty and financial strain (Brown, 2024).
The campaign, “Para!!, sa Las Piñas,” would emphasize the jeepney's cultural significance as a symbol of Filipino creativity and resilience, advocating for its preservation through cultural initiatives like museums and exhibitions.
Simultaneously, it would promote and advocate for the balanced transition to modern and eco-friendly jeepneys to reduce pollution and enhance public transportation, while urging the government to provide financial support to make these vehicles accessible for operators. It aims to enhance Las Piñas as a hub for jeepney heritage while also ensuring the industry's sustainability.
