The game was originally called Ping-Pong and invented in England in the 20th century and was originally called Ping-Pong.
In 1921–1922 the old Ping-Pong Association adopted the name table tennis.
In 1926, The International Table Tennis Federation was founded by the members in England, Sweden, Hungary, India, Denmark, Germany, Czechoslovakia, Austria, and Wales.
In 1926, the first world championships were held in London, and from then until 1939 the game was dominated by players from central Europe.
In the mid-1950s, Asia is known as a breeding ground of champions since the individual and team events for both men and women have been dominated by athletes from China.
In 1988, table tennis became an Olympic sport with singles and doubles competitions for men and women.
TABLE TENNIS EQUIPMENT
The ball is made out of a plastic-like material that allows it to bounce when hit by a paddle.

BASIC RULES
The first to gain 11 points wins the game. A match is won with a best of three out of five games.
If both players score 10 points (“deuce”), the player who gains two points consecutively wins. After tying, service alternates at every point.
Holding the paddle in hand, hit the ball over the net. It must hit the player’s side of the court before hitting the opponent’s side.
When receiving, Only hit the ball after it bounces on your side of the table.

Richard Pugoy Gonzales
Born on March 31, 1971, is a Filipino table tennis player who became the No. 1 ranked player in the Philippines in January 2014. He won a bronze medal in the men’s singles event in the 2013 SEA Games in Myanmar. Richard Gonzales gained a slot in the 2014 World Table Tennis Championship in Tokyo, Japan after initial recommendations from the coaches. He was eliminated in the semi-finals of the 2014 World Cup of Ping Pong (WCPP). Competed against Russia’s Maxim Shmyrev, Gonzales lost 2-1. As of 2014, He is one of the three Filipinos who entered the annual competition.
Ian 'Yan-Yan' Nietes Lariba
Born on October 13, 1994, passed away on September 2, 2018, at the age of 23. She attended De La Salle University and represented the University at the UAAP Championships. She was recognized as “Rookie of the Year”, then “Most Valuable Player” in the following year. Later she was recognized as the “Athlete of the Year”. Along with Richard Gonzales, she represented the Philippines in the 2014 World Table Tennis Championship in Tokyo, Japan. Unfortunately, in May 2017, Lariba was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. She then underwent head surgery in January 2018 and by September of 2018, she passed away.
