Title: Global dynamics and persistence of a nested age-structured immuno-epidemiological model with backward bifurcation
Abstract: We study the global dynamics of a nested, multi-serotype, age-structuredepidemic system arising in the modelling of dengue fever epidemics with antibody-dependent enhancement and reinfection. The model couples ageneral ODE within-host subsystem to an age-structured PDE describing between-host transmission, yielding a system of nonlinear functional differential equations which may be transformed into a differential–difference structure. The system may admit serotype coexistence and backward bifurcation, and thus may present with bistability.
We establish the existence of a compact global attractor, completely characterize the uniform persistence for all single-serotype and multi-serotype configurations, and give partial results on global stability for the disease-free, mono-endemic and bi-endemic steady states.
