Developing the Psychology of Religious Cognition in Brazil


The aim

A competition funded by the John Templeton Foundation and entitled Developing the Psychology of Religious Cognition in Brazil seeks to provide seed funding to early and established faculty for questions pursuing unanswered questions that fall within the following categories:

RELIGIOUS

IDENTITY

Religious identity, including its construction in the light of syncretism, its development over the lifespan, and religious switching, conversion, deconversion

SUPERNATURAL

ATTRIBUTION

Supernatural attribution, including potential cognitive dissonance among competing attributional accounts (e.g., God, saints, spirits) and internal vs. external agency attributions in spirit possession, and theodicy

REPRESENTATIONS OF

SUPERNATURAL BEINGS

Representations of supernatural beings, including attributes of, locality of, and relationships to God, spirits, and saints, drawing on attachment theory and/or other relevant theoretical frameworks, either in cross-sectional or lifespan perspectives
