Course: EW413 Digital Control Systems

3 Credits – 2 Recitation Hours – 2 Laboratory Hours

Course Description:

This course provides an introduction to the fundamental concepts and mathematics of digital control systems. Throughout the semester, we will design and implement digital controllers for various experimental platforms such as marine and ground vehicles. In addition, control designs will be evaluated for performance and stability in simulation prior to implementation.

Pre-requisites:

EW305/EW305H

Course Coordinator:

Prof. Feemster

Textbook:

Nise, Norman S., Control Systems Engineering, 8th Edition, John Wiley, 2019 (optional)

Course Objectives:

  1. Integrate the Python programming language in the control design process (simulation & implementation).

  2. To gain a working knowledge of Z-transform theory for digital control design.

  3. To implement and evaluate digital control systems on experimental platforms.
