September 2024
Dr. Yates has been named the recipient of the 2025 PUI Faculty Award from the Biophysical Society. She will be honored at the Society’s 69th Annual Meeting, being held in Los Angeles, California from February 15-19, 2025. The PUI Faculty Award, new in 2025, honors excellence in academic research and mentoring by faculty at a primarily undergraduate institution (PUI). August 2024
Dr. Yates has begun her research sabbatical for AY25 as a Visiting Scientist at the US Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, D.C.
Summer 2024
Summer research is underway! Dr. Yates and the rotational midshipmen interns (1/C Sanjana Basu Mallick and 2/C Maria Fernald) are at the US Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, D.C.

CONGRATULATIONS to 1/C Chloe Skogg for winning the 2024 Trident Scholar Prize! This is the top midshipman award at USNA! Her project entitled: "Formulation of Barnacle-Inspired Underwater Adhesives Using Commercially Available Products" was in collaboration with the US Naval Research Laboratory. Job well done Chloe! CONGRATULATIONS to 1/C Chloe Skogg on her acceptance to the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) in Bethesda, MD for medical school!
Dr. Yates, ENS K. Nachtrieb, ENS J. Fuller, and 1/C C. Skogg were acknowledged as co-authors on a paper recognized by the US Naval Research Laboratory with a prestigious NRL Annual Research Publication Awards Dinner (ARPAD) research publication award. The paper is linked here.
CONGRATULATIONS to ENS Jackson Fuller (Class of 2023, Chemistry) for being awarded a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal from the US Naval Research Laboratory. This notable award is for meritorious service and achievement.

1/C Eva Torres presented her research poster at the ACS Spring Meeting in New Orleans, LA.
February 2024
Dr. Yates was invited by the USNA Nimitz Library to take part in the USNA Faculty Research Talk Series. Her talk entitled: “Understanding amyloids: Barnacle-inspired Underwater Adhesives and Neurodegenerative Disease,” was given as an overview of her lab's research focus.
1/C Chloe Skogg presented a conference talk at the Adhesion Society meeting in Savannah, GA. She was the ONLY undergraduate to present her research in a 15 minute oral presentation!!
Dr. Yates also gave a talk at the Adhesion Society in Savannah, GA.

CONGRATULATIONS to 2/C Chloe Skogg on being selected as a USNA Trident Scholar for academic year 2023 - 2024 for her continued research on barnacle-inspired underwater adhesives in collaboration with the US Naval Research Lab. This is a highly competitive and prestigious designation awarded to only 11 midshipman in her class. Way to go Chloe!
