Data Storage Units Chart
Computer data is expressed by their respective data storage unit depending on the size of the data. And though the unit names/prefixes follow the metric system, the value is not the same. For example, a data with a size of 1 megabyte would contain 1024 kilobytes and not 1000 kilobytes.
Bits are the fundamental components of not only data storage but also all computers. Binary numbers are used by computers, which combine 0s and 1s in innumerable patterns. The smallest storage unit for data is made up of these binary digits, which are referred to as bits.
A byte is created when 8 bits are added together. A single character, whether it be a letter, a number, or punctuation, is stored in bytes. Although bits may serve as the foundation upon which data storage is built, bytes are the actual building blocks that genuinely define the utility of any one storage solution. All memory storage is expressed in terms of bytes.
