Buddy Program- Launched in Fall of 2020
In Fall of 2020, the Psychology department, alongside USFCA's Psi Chi Chapter, kicked off a major-wide program that pairs seasoned psychology majors in their 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year, with an incoming 1st year or transfer student new to the major.
Each mentor is paired with one mentee for the semester. Pairs meet at least once per month for 15-30 minutes to answer some scripted questions, have a dialogue about life as a USF student, and foster strong relationships rooted in our Psychology community.
The primary goal is to create a community within the department and help incoming students navigate their time at USF with the guidance of a peer mentor.
We had over 100 pairings in our first semester of the Buddy Program! Buddies met four times in the Fall semester and went over our major's website, the Psychology pathway career planner, how to register for the Spring semester, and other various tips from our seasoned 2nd, 3rd, and 4th-year majors.
We are so grateful for the success of our first semester implementing the Buddy Program and look forward to the future success of our program!
