2020 KELPA Standards Setting Opportunity

The KELPA Standard Setting event scheduled for May 19–22 has been postponed. It is tentatively rescheduled for July 14–17 in Lawrence or Topeka, provided we are able to meet in groups larger than 10 by that date. Location details are still being confirmed and will be shared once available. We know not everyone who expressed an interest in the May event will be able to participate in July. We also know that some of you who could not participate in May would like to participate in the July event, so we need your help.

Please read the following options and select the one that best describes your interest in participation. You must be able to participate all four days of the event.

OPTION 3

If you were not able to participate in the May KELPA Standard Setting event and did not sign up for the May event, but are interested in participating in the July Standard Setting event, please click on the following link and complete the survey. You must be able to attend all four days of the event.

Who we want: K-12 educators and/or administrators who work with English Learner students.

Event details: Hotel accommodations will be provided to participants who live beyond 60 miles from Lawrence/Topeka, mileage will be paid to all participants outside of the event location, and breakfast and lunch will be provided to participants. Participants may also be eligible to receive reimbursement for per diem after the event for any meals not provided.

Using KITE

You can access the secure test items and materials using your secure log-in within KITE. In KITE you will find...

KITE Test Examiner Scripts

Location: under the "help" tab
If you would like a paper copy of the official scripts, please email Michelle Hunter. Be aware that when you are done with the paper copy, it needs to be returned to the ESDC to be accounted for and destroyed.
Speaking Portion: Students will be able to record and re-record their audio 5 times. The 5th time will be kept and past attempts cannot be reaccessed once they are recorded over.
Remember that the speaking domain of the KELPA 2 may NOT be done using an iPad.

KITE Daily Access Codes

Location: Under the "manage tests" tab
Daily Access Codes are normally available at 3p each day for the next testing day.
KELPA 2 Practice: You can practice taking the KELPA 2 in KITE using these demo log-ins. If you would like to practice the Kansas math or reading assessments as they have PNP options, you can find their demo log-ins here.
The KELPA 2 can only be administered and scored by licensed personnel that have gone through KSDE test security training.

KITE Odds and Ends

Make sure you have selected the appropriate role and assessment program in the upper right hand corner.
- Your Role should be "Building Level"
- Your Assessment Program should be "KELPA2"
Remember that your KITE log-in is your full email address.
Reactivations can only be done by your building administrator.

Troubleshooting & Things to Remember

Deferred Scoring: Please remember that we will be doing deferred scoring. This means that we are not scoring any speaking or writing portions of the assessment until our district scoring day in March.
KITE Access: If you are having issues accessing your KITE account, please contact Michelle Hunter and CC your principal. If do not have building level access in your role, please send an email requesting it to Michelle Hunter. CC' Terry and your building principal.
KITE Difficulties While Testing: Contact your building administrator and then Kasey and Michelle. When sharing issues regarding a particular student, please remember to refer to them using ONLY their state student ID number.
New Students: Please allow 48 hours for a new student to be added. When the student begins attending your building, email Kasey to start the process of getting their test ticket generated in KIDS.

Scoring Speaking

We will defer the scoring of the speaking section until the district scoring day in March.

Paper copies of these will be available on the district scoring day.

If you would like to score the speaking simultaneously (optional), you may mark it on paper and share it with the assigned scorers on the scoring day for a third score. Sheets for recording speaking scores as a group of students and/or individually are below:

Scoring Writing

We will defer the scoring of the writing section until the district scoring day in March.

Paper copies of these will be available on the district scoring day.
