LPS does not have a formal procedure for completing home visits. However, after speaking with district and building administrators and Jose Cornejo, the district Mental Health Facilitator, there are several tips and resources we highly recommend for your review. Along with the tips listed, I personally found the video above, the Colorín Colorado article on home visits and the MindShift Podcast link most helpful.

Summer Transition Visit Logistics

• 1:1 Family visits are optional, but encouraged. They can be done in a public place (e.g. park, grocery store, restaurant), at the student's home, or at school. Visits may be done throughout the summer through the start of school so long as they are done before the Open House date of the school the student is attending.
• Send Kasey an email requesting an "Invite only: ESOL 1:1 Family Visits" organizational meeting. Essentially, this will be a time where I'll help you either log your hours to date in MLP and/or plan for 1:1 visits prior to your building's open house. Home visits need to be done in pairs and I'm happy to help with this as needed.
• Visit with you ESOL team and/or MS/HS/5th grade teacher contact to see if you can/want to coordinate 1:1 family visits together. A list of teaching staff by grade can be found on the LPS ESOL Program Information page. Kasey is also happy to attend 1:1 visits with you.

Home / 1:1 Visit Tips

1. Complete the home/porch/1:1 visits in pairs. Kasey is happy to do them with you if you need someone.
2. Notify and/or chat with with your building administrator prior to visiting (include Kasey on this if you like).
3. With your administrator, ELL teacher or school team, discuss (by student) if notifying the family of the visit beforehand is a good idea.
4. Take something to give the family or student (treat, school swag, Reading A-Z printed book, etc.) if possible.
