Community Service
Getting involved in community service and volunteerism is important for students to:
Build connections and foster relationships within the community
Develop leadership and collaboration skills, as they work with others during volunteer events
Serve and give back to community organizations that need volunteer support
Students should track any volunteerism they do on an academic resume! If you're not ready to put your hours into an academic resume, you can just keep track in a journal or Google doc. Write down:
Where/what organization you worked for
What specific duties you took on (washing windows, serving lunch, coaching elementary students in soccer drills)
The number of hours per week, the number of weeks, and the specific dates that you worked
When you apply for jobs or to colleges, they will want this information, so keep accurate records!
