Policies

1. While I Was Absent …

-Students are responsible for checking on make-up work when absent.

-Students have three days to get make-up work completed or will serve a detention.

-Our Google Classroom page indicates what was handed out during class, what class activities there were, any assignments that were due, and when the next assessment will be.

2. Week’s Schedule

-A week’s schedule will be posted on the board in the classroom for students to write in their agenda and posted on my classroom website.

-Events (i.e. assessments and assignment due dates) will be posted on our Google Calendar.

3. Unit Tests

-At the completion of each unit a unit test will be given.

-Students are informed one week prior to a unit test.

-Quizzes will be given frequently throughout the unit prior to taking the unit test.

-Students should review quizzes, notes and ISN information to prepare for the unit test.

-Students may utilize one notebook page as a "cheat sheet" for the unit test.

4. Vocabulary Quizzes

-Vocabulary sheets are handed out frequently.

-Quizzes generally are 2-3 days after the vocabulary sheets have been handed out.

-Students are aware when the quiz is.

-Vocabulary sheets are due the day of the quiz.

-All vocabulary quizzes are matching of 10 of the vocabulary words.

-Each hour is given a different vocabulary quiz.

5. Class Work

-Class work will be completed in class within the allotted time.

6. Interactive Notebooks (ISN)

-Students who score below a C- (70%) on a unit test have the opportunity to have one retake. The best test score

score will be recorded, but cannot be higher than a D+ (69%).

recorded.

-Retakes can be taken during Advisory or before/after school at teacher availability.

8. Extra Credit

-Students can receive extra credit by reading an historical fiction Accelerated Reading book each nine weeks. You must meet the following requirements to receive credit:

1. It must be an American History Accelerated Reading book.

2. You must score at least 70% or higher.

3. You must show the teacher the Accelerated Reading account before the end of the nine weeks.

-Students are not allowed to read Bound for Oregon by Jean Van Leeuwen or War Horse by Michael Morpugo. These are books we read as a class in 8th grade. Anyone reading these books and taking the Accelerated Reading test prior to our class reading them will receive a zero (0) on the classroom test.

-Extra credit points are determined as followed:

1 Book = 5 PTS

2 Books = 10 PTS

3 Books = 15 PTS

-This will also count as an Accelerated Reading book for Language Arts.

9. Grading

-I use a weighted scale for grading. Here is the breakdown:

Unit Tests 60% of final grade

Quizzes 30% of final grade

Class Work 10% of final grade

10. Supplies

-The following supplies are required for class:

1. 1' - 1 1/2" Binder with pockets (to ONLY be used for History class)

2. Notebook Paper

11. Chromebooks

-It is important to understand that these are not personal Chromebooks; rather, they are for use on classroom material only.
