Director of Bands
Since 2016, Mr. Northerns has been our director of bands and helps to oversee all band classes offered in the Circle Public School district grades 5-12.
He is a graduate of Kansas State University (2006) under the direction of Dr. Frank Tracz, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education with an emphasis in secondary instrumental (BME). In 2014, he studied with Dr. Victor Markovich at Wichita State University, where he earned a Master's Degree in Music Education concentrating on Wind Band Conducting (MME).
In addition to directing the band program here at Circle, Mr. Northerns is also the Kansas Music Educator's Association 1234A All-State Band Chair.
Mr. Northerns lives with his wife and four children in Bel Aire, KS.
Colorguard Instructor
Mrs. Karen Foxx is our new colorguard instructor for both the Circle High School Blue and Gold Marching Thunderbirds, and our Circle Middle School colorguard team. Karen has worked the past two years as a Para for Circle Middle School. She has two children that are students in the district as well. Her husband is a 25 year veteran in Law Enforcement in Wichita. They reside in Augusta, KS
Before working for the district Karen had been a Professional Horse Trainer with the American Paint Horse Association and the National Snaffle Bit Association, coaching both youth and adult clients for nearly 20 years. She and her clients have competed across the country at National Equine events, winning over 30 World & Reserve World Championship titles.
In her earlier years, Karen competed in Colorguard for Concord High School in Concord, MI. Once she graduated she became the Colorguard Coach for Concord High School until 2005.
