Seaman baseball was established in 1986 by Phil Loomis and Duane Melvin. Seaman baseball has emerged as a powerhouse within the Kansas high school baseball scene. In its inaugural year, the team faced formidable opponents including Turner, Lawrence, Silver Lake, Wichita North West, Newton, and Emporia, laying the foundation for a legacy of excellence.
Over the decades, Seaman boys baseball has amassed an impressive record, clinching a remarkable 9 state titles and making consecutive appearances at the state tournaments for an astounding 20 seasons. Noteworthy among the architects of this success is a former baseball coach Steve Bushnell, who dedicated 22 years to shaping the team before transitioning to the role of Seaman High School’s esteemed Athletic Director. The baseball team has been coached by Coach Trent Oliva since 2021.
Seaman Baseball holds the state record with 19 straight consecutive state appearances, a testament to the program’s enduring commitment to excellence. Among the notable years of state tournament participation are 2000, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2013, and 2018.
The Seaman Lady Vikes softball program was established in 1986 and has been synonymous with excellence and achievement. In its inaugural season, the team faced off against formidable opponents including Emporia, Lee Summit, Louisburg, and Lansing.
Throughout the years the Lady Vikes has amassed over 10 regional championships. The team has claimed two fourth-place finishes in 1991, 2000, 2012, 2014, and 2018. In 2016 the Lady Vikes made history, boasting a remarkable 23-1 record en route to cinching their first-ever state championship. In 2014, the Lady Vikes achieved perfection in the regular season, clinching both the Centennial League and Regional Championships en route to a stellar 23-1 overall record.
Guiding the team through triumphs, Kevin Hoffman stands as the program's winningest coach, with an impressive tally of over 390 victories. As the program bids farewell to a coaching era, Jay Monhollon concludes his tenure as head coach in 2024, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and success.
