The Ottawa School District is committed to helping each student reach key educational benchmarks within our mission and vision that each student will graduate with the knowledge, skills, and behaviors to have life sustaining employment. Part of that mission and vision is dependent upon quality instruction in our schools and a guaranteed and viable curriculum alignment with state standards.Â
The District BOE approved curriculum is closely aligned with state standards, outcomes and competencies and sequentially develops students' abilities in critical thinking and problem-solving. All schools have frequent opportunities to use technology as a research and learning tool.
The district curriculum maps represent the standards and "what" the students are expected to know and be able to do. The instruction is "how" the district supports student learning. Teachers and administrators will differentiate, based on student needs, in order for students to meet learning expectations. Assessments, whether formative or summative, are the means to determining student mastery and proficiency of specific learning targets, academic standards, learning outcomes, indicators and/or competencies.
