The ASTA Certificate Advancement Program (ASTACAP) is a progression of 11 performance examinations for motivated students who want to be challenged and work on individual goals at their own pace.
Each exam has recommended goals for passing based on the performance of scales, etudes and/or pieces, and sight-reading. The estimated cost per exam is $50 through ASTA website. There are opportunities to take any level of exam (sequentially) online from November 1-30 and June 1-30. If there is a high rate of interest, an in-person version of the exam may be offered on a different date.
You do not need to be in private lessons to take these exams. Interested students will receive support and guidance through their school orchestra class and occasional after-school meetings. A new player can expect to see content similar to Foundation Level, Level 1, and Level 2 in their first year of orchestra.

A generic list of materials can be found here. More advanced or specialized classes may have additional needs which will be communicated via Canvas and/or email.
