Reflective Statement
Reflective Statement
This statement is hard to write. I would like to keep collaborating with this Friends group and at this library. I feel like I have made true connections with this group of people and community. Hopefully, I will find this kind of atmosphere in the future.
This PFE was to focus on improving my administrative skills by collaborating with the Friends of the West Warwick Public Library, Board of Trustees, and the WWPL Director. The PFE project included working with the FWWPL in areas of fundraising, marketing, recruitment, and developing a social media presence. Each member of the Friends group has different responsibilities. I taught specific technology skills to each member based on these responsibilities. These one-on-one sessions gave me the skills and confidence to think about future library programing opportunities using technology.
I have never encountered such a positive group of people. The way they look at their library’s community then shape programs and learning opportunities around what they see is heartwarming. The number of outside organizations that set up tables in the lobby of the library is incredible. This simple form of outreach between mental health, behavioral health, homeless groups, nursing programs, local first responders, housing authorities, and local Pride organizations, shows how well this staff listens to their patrons and the community at large.
I truly do not know or have the words currently to complete this reflection statement. I am still digesting what I have seen and learned from this PFE and library. West Warwick Public Library is like no other library I have ever walked into. I am incredibly grateful to the West Warwick Public Library for this opportunity. This is one experience that is hard to walk away from. Thank you for allowing me into this great community. I am forever grateful.
