Our Story
Growing up poor, Black, and queer in Brooklyn, New York, I often struggled to find providers who truly understood the fullness of my experience—people who could hold space for the intersections of race, sexuality, gender, and class with empathy and awareness. Too often, I encountered professionals who lacked cultural humility and competence, making therapy feel inaccessible or incomplete.
Urban Black Therapy was born from that experience. I created this practice to fill the gap I once faced—to build a space that centers intersectionality, embraces the complexity of identity, and celebrates the wholeness of every person. Here, you never have to leave any part of yourself at the door.
Each part of our name carries meaning:
Urban — Reflects the communities I come from and have served—the vibrant, fast-paced NYC metro area. I understand how the constant motion, noise, and hustle can shape our mental and emotional well-being.
Black — Represents both who I am and how I see the world. It is a commitment to equity, justice, and the belief that every human being deserves access to care, love, respect, liberty, and dignity—regardless of race, gender, orientation, or identity.
Therapy — To me, therapy is a partnership—a journey of healing, growth, and self-discovery.
Now that you know who we are, we can’t wait to get to know you!
