At Urban Black Therapy, your privacy and confidentiality are protected by both New York State law and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). All information shared during therapy sessions is strictly confidential and will not be released without your written consent, except in situations required by law.
These exceptions include instances where there is:
A risk of serious harm to yourself or others,
Reasonable suspicion of abuse or neglect of a child, elderly person, or vulnerable adult
A valid court order requiring disclosure.
*** Please note that in cases when a client brings suit against a therapist and/or the platforms used to render services, their record can be submitted as evidence, when necessary, without client consent.
Electronic communication and telehealth sessions are conducted using secure, HIPAA-compliant platforms via Headway, Alma, and HIPAA-compliant Google platforms to ensure your information remains private. We are committed to maintaining the highest ethical and legal standards in protecting your personal health information.
