Water Quality

Written Test and Salinometer Testing

Participants will be accessed on their understanding and evaluation of marine and estuary aquatic environments. Teams must build, calibrate, bring and demonstrate a salinometer/hydrometer capable of measuring saltwater (most likely NaCl) concentrations between 1-10% (mass/volume).

Dynamic Planet

Written Test Only

Teams will complete tasks related to physical and geographical oceanography such as:

Seawater analysis

Topographic features

Tectonic plate motion

Chemicals in the ocean

Reef formations

Waves analysis

Current analysis

Deep ocean circulation

Tides

And so much more!

Detector building

Build a Temperature Probe and a Written Test

Teams will build a durable temperature-sensing Device that will accurately measure, and display temperatures between 0 to 75 degrees Celsius to determine the temperature of four different water samples.

This event includes the additional challenge of coding an Arduino! This is a skill that can be used in the future to create your own gaming systems, etc.
