Elements of poetry are structural elements that are found in a poem to give it structure, fluidity, and meaning. The elements of poetry discussed in the past class were:
Line
Stanza
Theme
Mood
Symbolism
Rhyme Scheme
Metaphor
Repetition
Simile
Alliteration
Personification
For this class, we will be taking a closer look at five types of poetry. There are a lot more styles of poetry, but for this class, it will only be five, which are:
Free Verse
Acrostic
Haiku
Elegy
Sonnet
The diversity found in poetry is enriching, and it will give us a wider view of the topic. Poetry is more than verses and stanzas.
First Assignment
Instructions: Complete the following forum. Write one paragraph (the paragraph needs to have a minimum of 5 sentences well written) about what you know of the types of poetry. You must also comment on two of your peer's forums. Also, the forum must be the first thing you do in your class module, do not submit the forum at the end of the class or in between already submitted assignments. I will be checking every day the forum to make sure you did it, and to give points.

Look for 5 poems, one for each type studied in class. After looking for these 5 poems, you will pick 2 of the poems and make an analysis of each one. This document that you will create must include:
Title page
The 5 poems that you searched
The 2 poems you chose and the analysis.
This analysis must include: what type of poem it is, what message the author wants to communicate, what are your thoughts about the poem and why you think the author chose that style of poetry to write that poem.
This homework will be sent to my email (alfredo.toledo@upr.edu) in PDF format.
Total value for this assignment: 25pts
Create 3 poems with the types of poems you did not choose on homework 1.
Example) For homework #1 you choose the poems of Free Verse and Sonnet, then for this homework, you must write one poem for an acrostic, haiku, and elegy poetry type.
Be original, and do not plagiarize a poem that is not yours, since this can be a lot of trouble for you.
