Course Description
Authentic assessments as a practice are now in place within the K-12 system and more specifically at the ALS where students are encouraged to submit a portfolio of works as evidence of learning and achievement. This course is intended to prepare ALS teachers, para-teachers, learning support aides and/or teaching assistants to engage in the teaching and preparation of electronic portfolios as a viable option to help their students showcase their best evidence of learning. This course aims to equip teachers with basic skills in the planning and execution of ePorfolios, including the use of varied ICT tools/platforms for ePortfolio-making.
Course Objectives
At the end of the course, the participants should be able to:
a) Acquire knowledge of principles in creating ePortfolios as evidence of learning;
b) Employ the design cycle in the curation of content for ePortfolios; and
c) Produce ePortfolios using a selection of ICT tools/platforms and self-reflection
activities

1. What should I expect of a Short Course under the FEd-CEP?
Our cycle of short courses under the Language and Literacy cluster runs for a brief period (8 weeks - 10 weeks) and through an online blended learning delivery in a small-class-size population.
● Expect 1 course facilitator from UPOU with expertise and extensive experience in K-12 teaching and learning as well as professional development of teachers.
● Expect the course enrollment period depends on the Academic Calendar that will be issued by the FEd-CEP Team.
● Expect the course to run 6 weeks and with a pre-scheduled course orientation a few days before start-of-class. Note the holiday break within this period.
● Expect the short course to provide you with a course guide, a suggested study schedule, a set of course requirements and course materials through the virtual classroom.
● Expect to dedicate 3-6 hours a week of course participation/study time in a virtual classroom (ASCEND), and 4 or more live class sessions by Zoom or GMeet during the 6 week period.
● Expect a Certificate of Completion to be issued upon passing the course, subject to the final submission of satisfactory and complete course requirements. University of the Philippines Open University Faculty of Education Continuing Education Program FEd-CEP
2. Are the short courses free?
● Only courses in pilot-run are for free.
● The eTL 182 is in its pilot run this AY 2024-25 hence the 1st Year cycle of offering is free, to mean there are no course fee charge ONLY a Php500 application processing fee will be charged.
● Note that there will be no option for a refund. Hence, be very certain about your application and enrollment in case approved for admission.
3. Who is eligible to apply for and take the short courses?
● This FEd short course are open to all types of learners who meet any of the following criteria:> Students enrolled from DSSE> Freshman students from the Bachelor of Education Studies (BES) program> ALS Teacher
● Note that the final confirmation of your course enrollment is subject to the approval of the Program Development Associate/Course Coordinator.
4. Can I apply and/or register for more than one course?
● Yes, in case there will be more than 1 course offered. Simply submit another response through the Google Form posted at the UPOU-FEd FB Page for the next cycle of course offering.
● Note that an expression of intent (EOI) through the registration form and payment of application fees do not mean automatic approval for admission.
5. Any other special arrangements in the future?
• The UPOU Faculty of Education through its Continuing Education Program are open to offering any Short Course (Language and Literacy cluster) as part of a school-based in service program with a minimum of 15 teachers/school staff.
• For this arrangement, kindly email fed-communitas@upou.edu.ph at least three (3) months before the scheduled dates.
6. Will this earn me CPD units?
• If you are after CPD units, then the FEd-CEP short courses are not for you. However, UPOU is working towards that direction.
