Counseling

As part of our commitment to support students holistic development, Uplands provides two different forms of counseling. Personal counselling and University/Career Counseling. In order to make an appointment to see one of the counselor, students can email them directly or teachers and parents can support with making the arrangements.

Personal Counseling (Social Emotional)

School life and growing up can be stressful due to all kinds of factors such as friendships, family and work pressures. Students generally achieve better if they are able to focus on their studies rather than worrying about other things going on in their lives. The personal counselor is available to all students who find themselves dealing with life challenges and who may benefit from a confidential conversation to explore options and solutions.

Examples of the types of things that a counselor can support you with include:

  • Transition – are you missing home, are you worried about leaving school?

  • Personal issues – maybe you are experiencing something in our out of school (family, friends, social, personal).

  • Friendship/social problems – sometimes you need a helping hand or other ideas about how to solve friendship problems.

  • Bullying – exploring ways to address this in school.

  • Behaviour and getting into trouble. explore ways to make school life better.

  • Managing school, motivation, organization, keeping up with work.

  • Resolving a dispute/conflict with a teacher, family member or friend.

  • Stress management, anxiety, depression, self harm, eating and sleeping problems, overwhelmed etc.
