After viewing most of my classmates’ outputs, I must say that I am impressed by how talented and creative they are. It is clear that most of the class are passionate about what they do. There were photos that stood out to me because of how great their output was, almost at a cinematography level of photography. Some also showed off their vacation images, which captured rare moments that also showed a glimpse of the different cultures and wonderful landscapes. I also observed others that are putting their efforts, showing their determination in honing their skills in photography. Overall, I am pleased by the variety of talent in this class and I look forward to seeing how everyone continues to develop throughout the trimester.
What I like about this photo is that it creates an elegant and nostalgic atmosphere through the use of rule of thirds and proper framing. Additionally, the combination of the dramatic backlight, which gives the tone of warmth, and the contrast between the beautiful cool hues of the dress, which creates a harmonious balance to the colors. Overall, this is truly a captivating photo with great framing and use of elements.
This photo portrays a warm and vintage approach with its rich lighting, depth, and magnificent details. The chandelier, being the focal point, accompanied by the vintage furnishings, really enhances its vintage approach. The addition of warm yellowish white tones provides a cinematic atmosphere, while layered items such as lamps, furniture, and a framed photograph present depth and texture. The combination of highlights and shadows also gives depth. With that said, it's a nicely taken photo that brings a vintage approach.
What makes this photo stand out is the use of a combination of techniques such as shallow depth of field, rule of thirds, and natural lighting. The subject's strong gaze and great facial features, combined with cultural elements as his attire and natural elements on the background, creates a compelling visual narrative. The blurred background of rich vegetation adds depth while remaining focused on the subject. The combination of warm earthy tones and cultural elements makes this photo more authentic. Overall, this is a striking and well-executed representation with significant emotional depth and cultural relevance.
This photo strongly follows the techniques of symmetry, leading lines, and perspective. The straight lines of the buildings and roadway naturally draw the eye to the focal point, Taipei 101, which beautifully stands out in the middle of the picture. Also, the addition of contrast between the older, tightly packed residential structures and the new tower in the distance provides a fascinating visual narrative that highlights urban evolution. The lighting is warm and harmonious, bringing out the fine details of the buildings while keeping the sky vivid. However, I think the parked scooters and cars from the roadway compete for attention. Overall, this is a well-balanced and interesting urban setting.
And lastly, this photo that has a powerful visual narrative that perfectly conveys true emotion. The method of desaturating selected areas, adding depth of field, while leaving colors for the children's clothes, highlights their vulnerability and fortitude in the rain. The blurred background that separates the subjects, creating a sense of difference between them and the seemingly uninterested passerby. The lighting is natural and melancholy, heightening the somber atmosphere. This work is truly an eye-catching and thought-provoking image that conveys a complex story with few elements.
Now that I've witnessed how talented and dedicated my classmates are in photography, I've put together a greater understanding for the various styles, tactics, and creative approaches that each of them showed. Seeing their work has been both inspiring and humbling, as it has given me a better understanding of where I now stand in terms of my photography abilities. In terms of layout and frame, I believe I have a fair knowledge about it. I am aware of leading lines, the rule of thirds, and depth of field, and I strive to use them intentionally in my work. However, after reviewing my classmates' images, I see that I need to be more mindful about how I apply these tactics to bring out deeper emotions and create interesting narratives. To improve my photography skills, I will need to devote time and effort while stepping outside of my comfort zone. I should take photos anytime inspiration comes and actively seek feedback from experienced photographers or even friends. Learning from them will allow me to improve and polish my skills.
