Serving as a combination of an assessment, reflection, and showcase of my EDS 199 Special Project in partial fulfillment of the capstone requirements for the degree of Bachelor of Education Studies at the University of the Philippines Open University, this ePortfolio documents my work on Project EduPREP: Professional Readiness for English Speaking Proficiency—a training program aimed at supporting Filipino English teachers in Vietnam.
Project EduPREP focuses on preparing Filipino educators for the English Speaking Summer Program at Future Integrated Schools located in Cao Lanh City, Dong Thap Province, Vietnam. The broader goal is to enhance students' speaking skills for events like the annual English Speaking Contest hosted by the Department of Education and Training in Dong Thap. Through research, instructional design, and professional development, Project EduPREP seeks to empower teachers with targeted training and resources to lead dynamic, speech-focused learning experiences.
The EduPREP Presentation Slides visually supported key points and important concepts, and further enhanced retention and understanding.
The EduPREP Teacher's Handbook contains key details, strategies, and reference materials to support teachers.
The EduPREP Training Booklet facilitated training activities and note-taking during the program.
Hello, I am Seth Emmanuelle! I am a 23-year-old Bachelor of Education Studies student at the University of the Philippines Open University, and I have lived in Vietnam for most of my life. My passion lies in instructional design, material development, and educational research—fields that go beyond the classroom but remain deeply rooted in people and context.
This passion shaped EduPREP, which showed me that instructional design is not only about applying theories and models, but also about adaptability, collaboration, and creating meaningful learning experiences grounded in context and centered on people.
As an offshore UPOU student, I see this project as my own small way of supporting Filipino teachers working abroad. Through EduPREP, I wanted to help empower educators to deliver instruction that truly makes an impact and, in turn, give learners the confidence to succeed in real-world and competitive settings. At the same time, this experience allowed me to bridge theory and practice in a real educational context, contributing to teacher development while also helping students grow in their English speaking skills.
First and foremost, I thank God for the strength, wisdom, and grace that carried me through this journey. This special project and my whole learning experience would not have been possible without Your spiritual guidance, abundant blessings, and loving presence.
I extend my deepest gratitude to the University of the Philippines Open University, especially the Faculty of Education, for nurturing my academic growth as an independent learner and my holistic development as a person. In my four years as an Eskolar ng Bayan, I was able to reconnect with my Filipino roots, communicate with and learn from fellow Filipinos, and strengthen my awareness and compassion for my country. Salamat po sa pagbubukas ng aking puso, diwa, at mga mata; dala-dala ko ang bayan kahit saan man ako dalhin sa buhay.
To my project adviser, Sir Leynard Gripal, thank you for your steady patience, thoughtful feedback, and genuine encouragement. I am sincerely grateful that you pushed me to my limits and challenged my mindset so that I could figure out what my heart truly wanted to pursue. Thank you for your guidance through the last two trimesters, shaping the direction and depth of this project into what it has become.
I also thank all my professors and faculty-in-charge at UPOU for equipping me with the knowledge, skills, and values essential to my academic and professional journey. The lessons, reminders, and challenges that pushed me to do better will stay with me long after this chapter ends.
To Future Integrated Schools (FIS), my partner institution, thank you for trusting me to carry out this project. Your collaboration and cooperation gave me a space to practice my instructional design skills and be of service to Filipino educators in Vietnam. Special thanks to Ms. Phan Thi Than Thuy for being my gatekeeper, opening the doors to FIS, believing in my goals and objectives, and providing support in implementing my project.
Thank you, Mr. Sam, the subject matter expert, for generously lending your time and expertise. Your insights and feedback greatly enriched the project's relevance and impact. I also wish to thank the project implementers, Mr. Elio, Ms. Daisy, and Ms. Mirra, for bringing this project to life. EduPREP was a success because of your energy, effort, and collaboration.
To my parents, Daddy M and Mommy C, and to my sisters, Sam and Sean: thank you for your love, understanding, and support. I would not be the person I am today if it were not for our family and the values we uphold. You have taught me not only to study and work hard but also to breathe and rest when needed. You constantly challenge me to become better than I was yesterday, ensuring that I am prepared for the world and ready to pursue my dreams. Thank you for the strong and loving foundation that makes me me and us us. Thank you for both teaching me and allowing me to learn the ways of life. Everything I have achieved at UPOU and beyond is yours, too. I love you always, and in all ways.
Jeoresa, my best friend since junior high school, I do not think I would have survived this journey without you. We entered the same university, took the same degree, enrolled in the same courses, and, as much as possible, worked in the same groups. Thank you for growing and learning with me throughout these years; for keeping your chats always open to my questions, thoughts, and rants; for the soju nights and random calls. Open and distance learning was not so lonely because of our friendship that has gone through so many phases in our lives, through all the stress and the milestones. I am so proud to give you the biggest congratulations for your achievements and success as a student, an educator, and an individual.
To UPOU Esports, I wish I had found you earlier in my academic life so I could have spent more time solidifying the community and organization. Thank you for bringing color into my journey, believing in what I could do for the team, opening doors to more learning experiences, and giving me fun, unforgettable moments that I will always look back on. Kuya Isaiah and Chim, I have learned so much from our friendship, and I am so grateful for the bond we have shared. Thank you for having me as your first Broadcast Director and first Vice President. Even after this chapter closes, you can still count on me to help our esports community.
To the UPOU friends and peers I have collaborated and crossed paths with, thank you for making this journey less isolating. I am grateful for all of you (you know who you are), for the late-night messages, the shared rants, and the way we rooted for each other through it all. I look forward to seeing where we go from here. Padayon, mga Eskolar ng Bayan.
And, of course, my constant Twitch friends, especially Keiff, Simon, Kedan, Vincent, Jeroen, Bennigans, and Blokaa, who have witnessed my ups and downs throughout my university journey, thank you for the comfort, company, and encouragement. I am grateful for the caring community and safe space we have fostered and the memories we have shared through music, games, and chats.
This special project and my whole university experience are made possible by all the kindness, support, and wisdom I have received. Maraming salamat po. Lagi't lagi, para sa bayan.
