2023
In collaboration with the Mammalian Cell Culture Laboratory (MCCL), this training workshop was held last June 19-23, 2023 at the Institute of Biology, UP Diliman. The workshop focused on hands-on training for two major topics: in vitro disease modeling, which included sessions for basic animal cell culture, cell viability assays, RNA extraction and molecular analysis techniques; and plant natural product extraction, which included sessions for plant crude extraction using organic solvents, phytochemical assay for antioxidant properties and phenolic content, and high-performance liquid chromatography. The training concluded with a session for data analysis and statistical methods.
In celebration of our parent Institute's 37th Anniversary, the SCIARM Laboratory held a Product Expo last January 30-31, 2023 which hosted various local suppliers who showcased their scientific and laboratory products to the general public.
2022
Under PhilDIAMOND Project 2 which aims to develop transgenic cellular models for studying HIV-related complications, our team conducted a 4-day Transfection Workshop last October 2022 to share our knowledge and expertise in transfection methods. The workshop was headed by Dr. Mylah V. Tabllelin, our collaborator from Mindanao State University, who gained expertise in developing transfected disease models during her postdoctoral fellowship in Kumamoto University.
The workshop was attended by several research associates and students from Mindanao State University and University of the Philippines Diliman and was held at the Institute of Biology, UP Diliman.
Under the PCARI-AMI Project which aims to develop in vivo disease models for studying plasma-mediated mechanisms behind acute myocardial infarction (AMI), our team conducted a 5-day Disease Modeling Workshop last June 2022 which tackled various levels of disease modeling from in silico and in vitro to in vivo mouse modeling.
The workshop was attended by several researchers and students from our collaborating higher education institutions (HEIs), namely Mindanao State University, Cavite State University, Mahardika Institute of Technology, Cebu State University, and Cebu Technological University.
