Like other educators, it interests me when there are new digital tools or applications that can be utilized in a class discussion. Thus, in some of my short lessons, I used to apply and integrate those digital tools as part of the teaching and learning process. The table below presents the employed Digital Learning Resources (DLRS) in relation to the flow of my lesson. It also displays how appropriate did I utilize my DLRs and their level of immediacy and bandwidth.
I think that I utilized my Digital Learning Resources (DLRs) in my lessons following most of the guidelines discussed by Prof. Garcia, Prof. McDermott, and Prof. Stanford. The DLRs employed during my lessons are accessible on the internet, current, and express richness in a way that reflects many perspectives, especially with the graphics and videos I used. Also, it is purposeful to the experiences of the students as well as in presenting a real scenario and inclusive to the gender and sociocultural aspects of my students. All those DLRs engage students in learning, allow them to practice their skills, and broaden their learning opportunities. Moreover, the DLRs employed in my discussion also consider students’ readiness to use the materials, cost, reliability, interactivity, and many others.
Nonetheless, those materials are not always used in most of my daily discussions. It is because not all my students have the access to the internet, and some do not really have the gadgets. Also, the lack of projectors and tv limits me in using DLRs in my lessons. As a result, I sometimes resort to traditional teaching, or just use any other strategies that do not involve gadgets.
The utilization of DLRs in my lessons is far from perfect. However, one thing I have learned from using the material is really to consider the accessibility, particularly on the gadgets and internet connection. Also, I think that the use of DLRs in lessons will truly be improved if the institutions provide every classroom with television or projectors. It is emphasized by Prof. McDermott as she discussed the O in the SECTIONS Model that organizations should support the use of DLRs. It is proven that the use of DLRs improves the quality of instruction. Thus, the administration should invest in this.
