Week 6: Pilot implementation of the lesson plan
Week 6 marked the pilot implementation of our SRH seminar, representing the Implementation Phase of the ADDIE model. The session involved selected members of the SK as participants, providing an opportunity to observe how the materials functioned in practice and to gather feedback before full-scale rollout.
Our seminar's structure implicitly followed Gagne's Nine Events of Instruction, a framework designed to optimize the learning process.
The session began with a pre-test, an event that served two purposes: to gain the learners' attention and to stimulate recall of their prior knowledge of SRH topics. By activating what they already knew, we prepared them for the new information.
Next, we presented the content through a lecture supported by a PowerPoint presentation and a digital booklet shared with participants. The manual played a crucial role by providing consistent instructions and examples, acting as a guide for learning.
The seminar encouraged active participation in the form of group sharing and role-playing, allowing participants to practice their new knowledge. Because of logistical issues and the unavailability of other SKs, we had to conduct the dry run in Zoom. Hence, minor challenges arose, like internet connectivity and limited interaction, although the actual setting did play a big role in the success of the project. Some of the challenges observed were valuable and will inform our in-person seminar.
Finally, we assessed performance through a post-test, which measured knowledge gains and provided direct feedback on the effectiveness of our materials. The pilot reinforced the importance of continuous refinement, a core principle of Gagne's model, ensuring our materials are not only effective but also replicable for future sessions. The positive feedback from SK members confirmed the manual and the instructional materials were easy to follow and visually appealing, setting a strong foundation for the project.
