The trajectory of our project used extensive Foley production to create the foundation of the sensory exploration aurally presented in our Final Project. Our production entails a rather non-linear exploration of life after death — not the "afterlife", per se, but the life that goes on after one’s death, specifically, after one takes their own life. This perpetuation of life and the impact of the loss of it is reflected through a collection of interviews and conversations. Our direction was heavily influenced by “THE WINDSHIELD WIPER”, an Oscar-winning animated short directed by Alberto Mielgo.
The story unfolds with the haunting sound of attempting to leap from a skyscraper, a profound silence follows marking this tragic end. Alarms come off and shrieks of terror are followed by the heartrending sound of mourners grappling with their loss. A poignant funeral scene filled with mournful eulogies and somber hymns cut in between intimate memories full of life and love. After the funeral, there comes the gradual return to a new normal, where life continues but is forever altered by a loss.
