Pattern - Gouache Tiles
Pattern - Gouache Tiles
Starting off with the pattern, I used our table cloth which displayed an interesting pattern of marble-looking blocks. After some experimenting with the settings and post-processing adjustments, it gave off an impression, at least to me, of textured gouache paint cubes. I just realized after looking through the EXIF data, that my aperture remained f/1.7 although there’s a function that performs a similar effect to depth of field when manipulated which I thought was equivalent to aperture and would reflect any changes to its values.
Moving on, I used a lower ISO in hopes of getting a better capture of its details because the material’s design itself displays a blurry effect that makes the overall resulting picture blurry. I tried to match the shutter speed as much as I could and because the environment is not as lit as it would during daytime, I chose a lower shutter speed to increase exposure. Still, it didn’t sit well with me because the resulting picture looks like it emphasizes the color more than the pattern, and after around 51 shots with different settings and angles, I felt like this photo I chose was the best that I could get at the time so I left it to post-processing where I dabbled with cropping, perspective, rotation, lightness, and noise to get the theme and aesthetic I was aiming for.
Motion - Cat Entrée
This entry for the theme motion involves one of my favorite subjects, a cat. Although I’ve thought of many other options to consider, I opted for a cat because they are adorable and are almost always in motion. Moreover, as a cat owner, I have multiple potential subjects lying around the vicinity of our home. However, for this shot, it was more of an accident because as I was setting the parameters, experimenting with what looked good for that specific angle in the environment, my cat suddenly moved and I just took a shot that turned dark initially, especially with the high shutter speed, but after some post-processing, it turned into a great display of motion with just enough blur to make my cat distinct from the still environment she was in.
Night - Lone Ray
This particular photo was an accidental find during a purposeful walk to find a better subject. Light definitely was in mind because of the contrast and emphasis it can bring especially with the theme. Since I see this activity as an intentional process of capturing an exceptional photo, I unconsciously thought better of manipulating as many factors as I could that the ultra-wide option of my camera limits. However, as I was exploring how I could improve this particular display of light, I clicked on the ultra-wide option which displayed the light as it is presented now which the default pro mode and its additional controls can't produce. Thus, I adjusted the remaining available parameters for better substance and viewing experience.
Height - Resplendent Miss
Resplendent Miss is a photo that depicts height as an electric pole touched by the warm light of a sunset. Initially, this entry was supposed to leverage the sunset’s resplendent ray to illuminate the top of the electric pole, creating a bold contrast. However, as I got there, I soon realized I had already missed the encounter, thus, the title. Consequently, I tried to make the best out of the situation by adjusting the shutter speed and ISO in hopes of emphasizing the remaining faint light which the resulting photo achieved to an extent, but through post-processing became more evident.
Flower - Orange Foci
I chose this particular flower because of its bright hue and position. It faced the direction of the upcoming sun which provided natural lighting that I adjusted my parameters for. From my perspective, the resulting picture was good but compromised my goal of showing the flower as a whole at a glance with what I felt was an overwhelming display of color that overshadowed the flower’s detail and overall structure. Eventually, I decided to adjust the fade value during post-processing in hopes of improving subject isolation and presentation.
Thank you!
