Red Hot Chili Pepper's "By the Way"
People always say they’re amazed by what I do because I’m a “girl” drummer. Honestly? I hate hearing that. I don’t want your watered-down compliments. Don’t be impressed because of who I am, be impressed by what I do. By the hours I’ve put in, by the progress I’ve made, but all they see is “she’s a girl drummer.”
I once joined a Facebook group for drummers using electric kits, supposed to be a space for support and real feedback. Instead, all I got were shallow remarks from guys fixated on the fact that I’m a woman behind the drums. No real advice. No real value so I dropped it. That place wasn’t worth my time.
These days I don’t flood the internet with drum covers, and I keep most of them to myself because it’s not about performing for strangers anymore but it’s about grinding, improving, and leveling up every time I sit behind the kit. I share my work mostly with my family and close friends.
As you can see in my self-portraits, I hope you already know the kind of music I play. Rock and pop. Loud, aggressive, and full of energy. Beats that hit hard and make me move whether I want to or not. I also take on Japanese tracks like Kokoronashi, and anime themes like Gurenge and Fly High. They’re intense, demanding, and that’s exactly why I play them.
But every serious drummer knows the stage isn’t where it begins.
There’s always the grind behind the scenes.
The warmups, the mindset, the gear checks.
Now it’s time to flip the script and let’s go behind Chihiro’s lens, my camera.
