The 2021 article contains a selection of local children’s literature tackling what were once considered taboo topics in the publishing world, including but not limited to SOGIE, sex education, and bodily autonomy. It opens with a brief history on censorship and banning of children’s books in the Philippines, noting significant works and efforts that contributed to the radicalization of the genre. Finally, it compiles a list of Filipino children’s storybooks that discuss said topics, with details on how to purchase or access these resources.

Communication Education, 67(4), 513–520. https://doi.org/10.1080/03634523.2018.1494846
This chapter from Communication Education discusses methods educational institutions, particularly teachers, can use to prevent LGBTQ+ bullying. While our project does not focus on teachers, the authors stated that education is one of the most effective tools against queer-related bullying, which is often rooted in student (mis)education from parents that enforce prejudiced beliefs. The chapter also notes that LGBTQ+ youth are coming out earlier and need supportive allies, especially in primary and elementary schools. As such, the role of parents and early education in shaping attitudes can foster better-educated students that are more accepting of their LGBTQ+ peers.
Montilla Doble, J. (2022). Sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, and sex characteristics: A primer. UP Center for Women’s and Gender Studies. https://cws.up.edu.ph/?p=2441
This primer explains SOGIESC terminologies in a way that is easily digestable for adult readers. This resource is relevant to the topic because what our projects aims to do is similar to what this primer does. However, this primer is written in English and is aimed more towards adults. From this, we found a gap wherein we want this kind of information to be available for children. By using the information we have obtained from this, we hope to translate it in a language that is more readable for children to expose them to the existence of LGBTQIA+ identities.

From their examination, they have found out that values portrayed in children’s literature are helpful in its teaching purpose. These books can also serve as a resource for school activities that improve children’s necessary skills. Finally, these stories are also being used by professionals for therapeutic purposes.
