Welcome to my Academic Profile. I’m Dr. Nabaz Ibraheem Mohammed, an Assistant Professor of Hydrology and Environmental Science and currently serving as Vice President for Student Affairs at the University of Duhok (UOD). My academic path has been shaped by curiosity, fieldwork, and a deep desire to solve real-world environmental challenges—especially those affecting communities in fragile and water-stressed regions.
This page offers a brief look at my qualifications, teaching and research experiences, and the professional journey that has brought me here. Whether you're a student exploring your academic future or a colleague looking for collaboration, I invite you to learn more—and to connect.
I began my formal academic journey with a BSc in Forestry from the University of Duhok. Building on this foundation, I pursued an MSc in Environment and Natural Resources at the University of Wales, Bangor, where I explored the effects of climate-induced drought on pedunculate oak (Quercus robur L.).
Driven by a passion for groundwater systems and water sustainability, I earned my PhD in Hydrogeology and Environment from the University of Bordeaux, France. My doctoral research focused on tracer-based investigation of alluvial aquifers, blending hydrochemistry, isotopic analysis, and environmental monitoring techniques.
These experiences—across ecosystems, languages, and cultures—taught me not only science, but how to listen to landscapes and communities alike.
I have been teaching at the University of Duhok for over a decade, delivering undergraduate and postgraduate courses across the disciplines of hydrogeology, water quality, environmental monitoring, and scientific communication. My teaching is field-oriented, applied, and always connected to the realities of the region we serve.
Research has been a parallel and inseparable thread in my academic life. My work spans:
Groundwater vulnerability and quality
Emerging contaminants (pharmaceuticals, heavy metals)
Water security in post-conflict and refugee-hosting regions
Climate change adaptation and hydrological modeling
My projects often involve field collaboration with students, and several have received international recognition and support—including partnerships with IHE Delft, USAID, and leading regional universities.

In addition to my academic role, I currently serve as the Vice President for Student Affairs at UOD, where I work to improve student services, engagement, and academic support systems across all faculties. I previously served as Head of the Recreation and Ecotourism Department, and I remain involved in strategic committees related to academic quality, environmental planning, and community outreach.
My professional career has also included consulting and applied research with local water authorities, environmental NGOs, and regional development agencies—bringing together science, policy, and practice.
