Welcome to my academic profile! I'm Dr. Dawood Sulaiman Atrushi, and I'm passionate about both the science of civil engineering and the art of education. Throughout my career, I've had the privilege of wearing two hats: that of a researcher pushing the boundaries of civil engineering knowledge, and that of an educator guiding the next generation of engineers.
My academic journey began with a thirst for knowledge. I obtained my 1st M.Sc. and PhD in Civil Engineering from the prestigious Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), where I ventured deep into the fascinating world of concrete structures. But my curiosity didn't stop there. Recognizing the importance of effective teaching in shaping future engineers, I furthered my studies with a 2nd Master's degree in Higher Education Leadership from Kingston University, London.
For over 18 years, the halls of the University of Duhok have been my home base and since 2021 I have been servicing as 4th President. Here, I've had the honour of mentoring and inspiring countless undergraduate and postgraduate students in civil engineering. From laying the groundwork with foundational courses to exploring cutting-edge topics like advanced materials and project management, I strive to create a dynamic learning environment that fosters critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
My dedication to civil engineering extends beyond the classroom. I've actively participated in research projects, pushing the boundaries of knowledge in areas like concrete structures and sustainable construction practices. My published works not only contribute to the academic discourse, but also have practical implications for the real world.
My leadership qualities have also led me to take on prominent roles within the academic and professional landscape. I served as the Director General for Engineering and Projects at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Affairs, playing a key role in shaping the future of higher education in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Additionally, my tenure as the President of the University of Duhok allowed me to contribute to strategic planning and spearhead impactful projects, fostering a vibrant policy driven academic environment.
My pursuit of knowledge is a lifelong journey. I actively participate in conferences, workshops, and training programs to stay updated with the latest advancements in both civil engineering and educational methodologies. This continuous learning allows me to bring fresh perspectives and innovative approaches to my teaching and research endeavours.
I believe that education is a collaborative process, and I'm always eager to connect with students, fellow researchers, and anyone who shares my passion for civil engineering. Whether you're a prospective student seeking guidance or a seasoned professional looking to collaborate, I invite you to explore the rest of my academic digital portfolio and get in touch!
