FYS Learning Outcomes Survey

UNLV Assessment Plan & Report Standards

  1. Academic assessment must involve the on-going, systematic collection and analysis of meaningful evidence of student learning. (Reference: NWCCU Standard 4.A.1)

  2. Assessment plans and reports must list all program learning outcomes and specify which are being assessed during each assessment cycle.

  3. Assessment plans must include a curriculum map that indicates where in the curriculum the learning outcomes are addressed.

    • Examples of curriculum maps can be found here.

  4. Assessment plans and reports must include at least one direct measure of student learning.

    • Examples of direct measures of student learning can be found here.

    • Overall grades are not a direct measure of student learning. Student work completed as a normal part of a course or program, however, can be used to assess student learning as long as that work is tied to expected student learning outcomes and the expected levels of performance are established in advance by a rubric or other relevant criteria.

  5. Assessment reports must provide meaningful analysis of all assessment data. Evidence should be used to explore whether changes led to improved learning.

  6. At a minimum the results and analysis of student learning evidence must be presented to and reviewed by relevant program faculty to consider possible course or program changes.

  7. UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS must assess at least one UULO per year, which may or may not overlap with program learning outcomes being assessed.

  8. GRADUATE PROGRAMS must address at least one of the following per year:

    • student engagement in research, scholarship, creative expression and/or appropriate high-level professional practice.

    • activities requiring originality, critical analysis and expertise.

    • the development of extensive knowledge in the field under study.
