Foreign Language Teaching in and for European Contexts

A Jean Monnet Module on European language policies on foreign language teaching

Work programme

The FoLATE modules, integrated into one six-credit course organized in three main teaching activities, will be offered during the fall semester to second-year MA students as part of their regular curriculum.  They will be offered in two languages, English and Italian, corresponding to the two MA programmes at the Department of Foreign Languages (6 teaching activities altogether). The teaching activities will be organized in seminars. The following content is proposed:

FLT in and for European contexts - (60 classes), 6 credits altogether, to be delivered in English and Italian and made up of the following modules upon whose completion students will earn 6 credits which will weigh towards the overall credits to meet the requirements for the completion of their MA programme:

-European language education policies and teacher education (16 hours), 1.5 credits

-Language Competence: European Framework, Reference and Indicator (20 hours), 2 credits

-21st-century perspectives of FLT in multilingual Europe (24 hours), 2.5 credits

The modules are also open to in-service teachers, former students, and others who can take them (either in English or Italian) as part of the qualifications needed for their professional development as English or Italian teachers.  Participants will be provided with a certificate of participation at the end of the module.
