1. GENERAL

The name of the Higher Diploma

The Media Studies of the Faculty of Arts offers the Higher Diploma in Media Studies Course of two academic years duration as part-time.

Admission Criteria

The course caters for a maximum of 50 students for a batch. Applicants must have the basic minimum requirements for admission to Universities in Sri Lanka. Students shall be selected from the G.C.E.A/L performance and they shall be appearing for the entrance exam and interview.

The requirement for the commencement of a new programme depends on the minimum number of students enrolled as 30.

2. THE STRUCTURE OF THE DIPLOMA COURSE

Course Structure

The Academic Program of the Higher Diploma is based on credit valued, course unit system.

Volume of Learning and SLQF Level

The duration of the Higher Diploma in Media Studies is two years part-time and the volume learning of the programme amounts to 62 credits which meet the SLQF minimum requirement of 60 credits for Level 4.

The Part-time Program contains four semesters each of 15 weeks duration.

Credit valued course unit system

A course unit is a subject module that has a credit value.

A credit is a time based quantitative measure assigned to course units based on the number of student contact hours.

Definition of Credit:

i. 15 hours of the lectures and tutorials are equivalent to 1 credit

ii. For practical components, 30 contact hours is equivalent to one credit

The Higher Diploma program having 62 credits and it is 32 credits and 30 credits are assigned for the first year and second year of study respectively.
