Ambystoma mexicanum
The axolotl (Ambystoma Mexicanum) is an amphibian, although they are odd for an amphibian. This is because the axolotl never goes through metamorphosis, meaning that they stay fully aquatic. Axolotls are typically around 6-18 inches long and can be several colors such as brown, pink, or golden. The axolotl is only found in one lake, in what is now Mexico City. While the axolotl is nearly extinct in the wild, these guys are becoming a favorite household pet. The axolotl's wide mouth, which is used for swallowing prey whole, gives the axolotl a beautiful smile.
