At HighESt Lab we explore new frontiers of educational innovation through Artificial Intelligence. AI technologies offer powerful tools to personalize learning, promote learner autonomy, and improve accessibility to educational content. Our goal is to rethink traditional educational models, supporting a more inclusive, flexible and adaptive education, capable of meeting the needs of students with different profiles and experiences.
We collaborate with academics, educational researchers and developers to create smart solutions that enhance the role of education as a lever for individual and collective growth. Below are current projects.
Duration: 24 months State: Ongoing
The Clinical Trial in Education project explores new AI-driven teaching approaches aimed at enhancing students’ ability to learn effectively and develop critical thinking skills.
The initiative stems from a collaboration with the D'Amore-McKim School of Business at Northeastern University and explores innovative approaches to education and learning.
The primary objective of the project is to identify new models of university education: a university that does not merely train students in the use of AI and in the new skills required by the market, but that leverages artificial intelligence to accelerate learning processes, amplify the impact of education, and enhance the university’s capacity to deliver knowledge in a faster, more personalized, and more effective way. Throughout the project, different training modalities will be implemented and their impact on students will be evaluated through pre and post intervention questionnaires, enabling the assessment of changes in competencies, analytical capabilities, and overall learning experience.
The educational pathways will include:
the use of artificial intelligence as the sole instructional support;
the integration of AI with the active role of the instructor;
individual and collaborative learning formats, encouraging both teamwork and independent study.
The project aims to contribute to the development of evidence-based educational models that combine technology, high-quality teaching, and learner-centred design, reinforcing the role of the university as a driver of innovation and societal impact.

This project aims to develop an innovative artificial intelligence-based solution to simplify and optimize the process of entry and integration into the Italian university system for students from non-European Union countries. The initiative stems from the recognition of the significant linguistic, bureaucratic, and cultural barriers these students face throughout their academic integration, with consequent negative repercussions on their overall educational experience and on the internationalization potential of Italian universities.

The Virtual Tutor is a tool created to assist students in preparing for exams and exploring course material in depth.
It allows all students to explore course content at their own pace, summarizing concepts that might be found in various sources and allowing them to delve deeper into specific topics, thus acting as an expert Tutor in the university course. Using advanced Artificial Intelligence techniques, the system offers personalized content, real-time guidance and adaptive learning support. This approach helps students better understand study subjects and improve their academic performance.

The Edu4All project aims to develop an ethical, privacy-by-design and user-friendly framework for creating an interactive platform based on the Generative AI (GenAI) approach. The resulting software application will provide scalable and customized support for educators, helping them acquire new skills and abilities while improving the effectiveness of knowledge transfer to their students.The framework will be co-designed and tested in collaboration with professors, trainers, and students in South Africa. This approach aims to increase the democratization of knowledge, ensure the effectiveness of the tool, and improve trust and acceptance among educators by actively involving them at each stage of development.
