I didn't find an English translation of the Israeli song that I've read today, so I tried to translate it to the best of my ability. I'm no poet, nor English is my first language, so the translation is not very good, but I hope that it reasonably conveys the meaning.
The melody for this song was composed by Doron Boaz Levinson. The Hebrew lyrics were written by Hamutal Ben-Zeev. There is also an English version of the lyrics called 'Lay Down Your Arms' , written separately for the same melody, by the Canadian songwriters Lisa Catherine Cohen (main lyrics) and Harry Lewis. It is not a direct translation of the Hebrew, although it retains the theme.
Here is the Hebrew version that I read, along with my translation.
You can listen to a recording of the song made by an ensemble of prominent Israeli artists for the 2009 Israeli independence day:
A Prayer For Peace
Lyrics: Hamutal Ben Zeev
Melody: Doron Boaz Levinson
English: Mark Avsker
With a restless soul, an eager heart
Children’s prayer for tomorrow’s day
We will continue, despite the past
It is never late to give the Peace its way
One who believes, his way prevails
One in whom a love is left
For a new day, in a good place
Up the road, the hope is kept
At the end of wars
Through the veil of tears
The hand is reaching, calling
For the other hand, that is speaking Peace
and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore
At the end of wars
Through the veil of tears
The hand is reaching, calling
For the other hand, that is speaking Peace
At the heart of everyone there is a dream of tranquility
The dream of Peace
No wars, no sorrow, no tears
Peace
And the day is close
And here is the other English version:
Lay Down Your Arms
Melody: Doron Levinson
Lyrics: Lisa Catherine Cohen; Bridge: Harry Lewis
Dear God, please hear us - Listen to our prayer,
And help us do Thy will upon this Earth...
Let the children suffer war no more.
And let a peaceful world be given birth
Every hand that holds a sword can hold a baby
Every heart can learn to love...
Lay down your arms, begin the journey home
And join the human family
Bridge:
The road is long and steep
What we sow, we reap
Children need you: Let us lead you –
Promises we make we all must keep
They shall beat their swords into ploughshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation shall no longer raise up arms against nation, neither shall they teach their children war anymore. [Isaiah 2:4])
Somewhere deep inside the soldier,
There's a dreamer Dreaming of a world of peace...
Lay down your arms - Let Time heal every wound
And Love will someday set us free!
