It is important for ALL students who are pursuing an education after high school to complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). This application helps students receive grants, low-interest loans and help qualify for school-based grants and scholarships.
Each student and parent needs to make a FSA ID. For students, this will be used every year you fill out the FAFSA. For parents, this is your ID that you use with any and all of your children- you only need one FSA ID! Apply for your FSA ID here.
The FAFSA opens on October 1 of each year. It will use prior-prior year taxes. For example, if your student will graduate in 2025, the FAFSA will open up on October 1, 2024 (delayed until ~December 1, 2024) and you will use your taxes from 2024. While you don't have to complete the form right away, it is important to get your FAFSA to schools as early as possible. If you qualify for extra school grants, they give this out first come, first serve. Go to the FAFSA application here! There is also an 8 Steps to Completing the FAFSA help guide.
