Advance Fly Through
When a Flight Attendant elects for the Advance fly through and is awarded a Reserve line, the line will be awarded with the originally scheduled days on and off as they appeared in the bid packet with no Vacation days in the schedule.
The value of the Vacation days will appear in ADD Pay.
There will be no reduction to the Reserve minimum, since the Reserve will be fully available for assignment by the company for the full month.
Requests must be submitted no later than 1000 HDT on the 5th day of the calendar month prior to the month in which the vacation is scheduled to begin.
Operational Fly Through
When a Flight Attendant elects for operational fly through after having been awarded a Reserve line, the VAC days for the Vacation period flown through are removed and will become “OFF” days in the line.
The value of the Vacation days (3:15 per VAC day) will become ADD Pay, and the Reserve minimum guarantee will be reduced by the number of the Reserve days that were "touching" the VAC flown through.
Any Reserve days of availability that were part of the originally awarded line (and were touching Vacation days flown through) will not be restored.
Requests for Operational Fly-Through are made by contacting Inflight Admin (FAST) at 1-800-FLT-LINE or via CCS Virtual Chat any time before the Vacation period begins and after lines have been awarded.
This calculator is meant to help you plan whether or not an operational fly-through will be advantageous to you, depending on your priorities:
Pay - RSV min guarantee decreases by the number of RSV days of availability touching any VAC that is flown through. At the same time, VAC flown through moves to ADD Pay and so is paid in addition to the new RSV min guarantee. Figuring out
Time off desired - VAC periods that are flown through become OFF days (minus any trip/s picked up from ads).
Ability to pick up trips - You can now pick up (from ads only) on the new OFF days created, increasing your ADD pay balance. Trips picked up are typically worth more than the original VAC days, which is a reason to fly through for some people.
Reserves are paid the higher of their RSV minimum guarantee (78 hours) or credit hours flown. VAC time in your line counts as credit. VAC time flown through counts as ADD pay.
So when you do an operational fly-through, you are moving your VAC credit out of your line and into ADD Pay which is in addition to your guarantee. Those VAC days (including any RSV days that were covered by them) now become OFF days and so your RSV guarantee is reduced by the value of each RSV day that was lost as a result of the fly-through.
This complicated "trade-off" is the reason for the calculator!

After entering your info and hitting "calculate scenario", you will see two sections in the answer:
No Fly-Through: Displays your monthly pay and credit if you do not fly-through, by comparing your vacation credit and your RSV minimum guarantee. We are always paid the higher of the two.
Operational Fly-Through: This shows the TOTAL of your New RSV Minimum Guarantee + your VAC ADD pay from the fly-through. It will also show you how many new OFF days are then eligible for pickup from ads.
Comparison - The option that provides the greater overall value in compensation will be highlighted in green.
NOTE: Reserve Override ($2 per hour of RSV GUAR/credit) is included in the calculations so you should not include it when entering your Hourly Rate. (You will need to add Purser or language pay to your hourly rate if applicable)
Pickup Potential Estimator NEW! The Estimator allows you to see how picking up from ads on OFF days can impact your monthly income. In cases where initially, "No Fly-Through" is the best value, using the slider allows you to see when Operational Fly-Through becomes the better value based on hours picked up. (An average of 5 hours per day x your rate of pay is used to estimate.)
For iPhone & iPad users: If there are any scrolling issues with the calculator, try dragging from the top or far right edge of the screen. This is a known issue with Safari on iOS devices. Works fine on Chrome for iOS.
