For families new to UNIS or to the New York City area, New2UNIS is a PA parent group that creates opportunities for UNIS parents to meet and get to know each other while exploring cool NYC locales! The group also helps answer questions about life in NYC. To join, simply email New2UNIS@unis.org!
Tut House parents can contact the PA grade representatives to make sure they're added to the grade level parent chat groups (on WhatsApp) if they would like to do so. Please keep in mind that a number of parents on these chat groups are also faculty/staff members. Parents who join and engage with other parents on these chat groups are expected to abide by the PA guidelines on parent chat groups. Please make sure to review these guidelines closely before joining or posting on these groups.
Detailed information can be found in a dedicated section about Student Health in our Schoolwide Handbook.
A school nurse is available during the school day, from 8am to 6pm. You can contact our Health Office at schoolnurse@unis.org, or contact Nurse Marisa Rivera, Director of Student Health and Nursing, at mrivera@unis.org (tel: +1 212-584-3078).
In keeping with state laws and UNIS policy, several student health and medical forms must be completed annually and submitted directly by parents via Magnus Health Student Medical Record (SMR). These forms may be uploaded, faxed or mailed directly to Magnus. In order to protect the confidentiality of student health and related information, please note that the health office is unable to accept and upload health forms. Once completed and received by Magnus, the forms are available to our school nurses for final review and approval.
Required health forms which MUST be uploaded/acknowledged on Magnus Health:
Annual physical exam
Up-to-date immunization record
Vital health record
Consent to treat form
Over-the-counter (OTC) medication form
For students with any specific health needs, additional forms may also be required based on the specific health concern (i.e., prescription medication form, asthma action plan form, food allergy action plan form, diabetes action plan form and seizure action plan form.)
All medical forms must be acknowledged. More specifically, if a section in the Magnus Health record is not applicable to your child (for example, if he or she does not have allergies or seizures), please do not just skip that section; instead, mark it as “N/A.” This will avoid follow- up correspondence about missing information. Your child’s health record is not complete until all sections are completed.
Physical examinations, immunization records and all other forms are due each year for all students. All forms, except immunization records, are valid for 12 months. Immunization due dates are based on NYC vaccination requirements and timelines. Students may not attend classes and/or join sports teams until these essential forms are completed. Forms for students who participate in pre-season training for athletics must be on file before participating in any pre-season training. Your cooperation and attention to completing these forms in their entirety is essential for UNIS to remain in compliance with NYC Department of Health regulations. This essential information also facilitates our school nurses’ ability to provide safe and efficacious care and support to your children throughout the school year.
Please note that all documentation requiring physician completion and signatures must be done by a medical doctor who cannot be the child's guardian/parent.
If you are experiencing delays to obtain an appointment with your regular doctor/pediatrician, note that you can also obtain these medical forms through any urgent care center in New York City without any appointment. You can always update your records at a later date once you have been able to also see your regular doctor/pediatrician.
If you experience difficulty with uploading, please contact Magnus Health SMR customer support at service@magnushealthportal.com or by phone (877-461-6831). If you have trouble accessing Magnus, please email the tech team at websupport@unis.org.

Brooklyn Bus: A private yellow bus service from Brooklyn is being organized by a group of parents. The parent coordinators for this service are: Ms. Charlene Ouahab charlene.ouahab@gmail.com and Ms. Damita Yu damitayu@hotmail.com

Detailed information can be found in a dedicated section about Dress Code in our Schoolwide Handbook.
The responsibility for student dress and general appearance rests with each individual student and his or her parent(s) or guardian(s). However, any clothing which:
is obscene
encourages, or intends to encourage, violence or violent conduct
is derogatory to an individual or group
promotes the use of drugs, alcohol or tobacco
The Principal, Assistant Principal or any faculty member has the authority to require a student to change his or her attire should it be deemed inappropriate under the above guidelines.
Students are expected to keep their lockers clean and secured with a lock. Opening and/or tampering with another student’s locker or possessions is regarded as a serious violation of privacy. Valuables should not be brought to school. Students who insist on bringing valuables to school, do so at their own risk. Although rare, thefts have occurred: the school will not be held responsible for lost or stolen items. Students must follow these guidelines:
Personal expression (stickers, photos, etc.) must be limited to the inside of the lockers, and must be in accordance to the guidelines of behavior included in our Student Handbook.
The outside of lockers must be left clear. No writing (pen, paint, etc.) inside or outside of lockers is allowed.
The tops of lockers are not to be used for books, clothing, food items, etc, but only for oversized items too large to fit inside.
A student shall not place nor keep in a locker, desk or other school-related property any article or material which is of a non-school nature and may cause, is prohibited by school rules, or may contribute to the disruption of the mission of the school.
There is no guarantee of privacy associated with the use of lockers, which are the property of the school. Lockers (and their content) may be searched if there is reasonable probable cause (including, but not limited to, alcohol, illegal drugs or weapons). See the Student and Parent Handbook for more details.
