Protein ubiquitination is a process by which a small protein called ubiquitin is attached to a target protein, marking it for degradation by the cellular proteasome machinery. This process plays a critical role in maintaining protein homeostasis by removing damaged or unwanted proteins. Defects in protein ubiquitination have been linked to various diseases, including cancer, neurodegenerative disorders, and immune system dysfunction. Thus, understanding the regulation and function of protein ubiquitination is crucial for developing new therapies to treat these diseases.

The international meeting Life and Death of Proteins 2023 aims at bringing together world leading scientific experts to discuss the modern view of protein ubiquitination, deubiquitination and homeostasis both in health and disease. The meeting was conceived within the UBIMOTIF consortium, an ETN Marie-Curie network coordinated by Prof. Jakob Nilsson from the University of Copenhagen.
