Head of the Molecular Epidemiology of Cancer (MEC) laboratory
Prof. Laura Ottini is a Full Professor of General Pathology at Sapienza University of Rome, Italy, where she obtained her MD degree and specialization in Oncology. Her research focuses on the genetic and molecular mechanisms driving human solid tumors, with particular interest in the molecular epidemiology of breast and gastrointestinal cancers.
Her main areas of interest include the characterization of cancer susceptibility, assessment of cancer risk in individuals carrying pathogenic variants in susceptibility genes (such as BRCA1/2, PALB2, CHEK2, and ATM), and molecular profiling of tumors using advanced omics technologies.
Prof. Ottini is internationally recognized for her expertise in male breast cancer. She coordinates the Italian Multicentre Study on Male Breast Cancer and is Co-Leader of the International Consortium on Male Breast Cancer Genetics (MERGE). She is an active member of major international consortia, including the Consortium of Investigators of Modifiers of BRCA1/2 (CIMBA) and the Evidence-based Network for the Interpretation of Germline Mutant Alleles (ENIGMA).
