Curriculum
For English Language Arts, students will be following and participating in three units within the HMH Into Literature curriculum. There are a mix of literary and informational texts that allow students to gain, practice and strengthen crucial skills they will need throughout school and into their professional lives. HMH provides excellent resources for grammar lessons, group activities, writing practice, cross-curricular learning and much more!

ELA Class Structure
Our ELA classes are usually structured around the same routine to maximize class time and establish clear expectations for students to follow. The typical routine goes as follows:
Independent Reading (*free-choice or novel study/long read text)
Grammar Practice/Waggle
Quick Write: Writing Journals (varies)
Core Lesson: Whole-Class (HMH)
Independent/Group Activity
Waggle provides students with personalized practice towards various grammar goals/skills. Waggle is typically used twice a week paired with students' grammar practice workbook.
Students have been excelling as they make their way through a variety of recommended long-read texts, participating in novel studies. So far this year, we have read the following novels:
